United Players present Amphitruo by Plautus translated and directed by Toph Marshall Meet Alcumena, a woman so desirable that Jupiter stops the heavens so he can sleep with her. An adultery story with a faithful wife, this broken play breaks all the rules of ancient comedy. Two sets of doubles make us ask, what does it mean when you are no longer yourself? The original tragicomedy is presented here in a fresh new verse translation from the Latin by Toph Marshall, with music composed for the production by Alex Silverman. Amphitruo stars Claire deBruyn, Camryn Chew, Ayush Chhabra, Matt Loop, Joan Park and Erin Purghart. It is directed by Toph Marshall, with music composed by Alex Silverman, lighting design by Mark Carter, set design & properties by Ariel Slack, costume design by Claire Turner, sound/music supervisor & video design by Christopher King, fight co-ordination by Sylvie LaRiviere, technical direction by Leighton Taylor, stage management by Caroline Tang, and is produced by Pat Gibson. Content Warning: This play includes slavery, physical abuse, and reference to sexual abuse.
