Shadbolt Centre for the Arts presents the premiere of a concert/theatre show hybrid with Adrian Glynn & Band.
What started as an album release concert for the song cycle You’re Just A Place That I Know has now become a remarkable concert/theatre show hybrid, conceived by Ukrainian-Canadian singer-songwriter Adrian Glynn. The showdebuts at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts in Burnaby on Friday March 21 and Saturday March 22.
Fresh off a JUNO nomination with his folk ensemble, The Fugitives, Glynn released the album, which has been described as anthemic indie roots-rock with tinges of Ukrainian folk instrumentation, and called a “powerful album” by CBC’s Tom Power, in 2024.
You’re Just A Place That I Know traces the story of Adrian’s Ukrainian grandparents and their flight from WWII Europe to finally settling in Montreal to begin life anew. The show encapsulates the album and its compelling narrative, but goes further – probing questions of ancestry and generational connection, not just with Adrian’s stories and songs, but with stories from other members of Glynn’s band as well.
Those band members bring their varied backgrounds and experiences into the mix, creating a powerful and multi-faceted look, through song and story, at how diverse our ancestral tapestries can be and, simultaneously, how universal the potency of our generational links are. This emotional concert features Glynn’s great live band performance, the Righteous Ramshackle Chorus and the Windsor Choir (a 20-voice multi-generational choir).|
This ambitious, emotional and powerful production is not-to-be-missed!
