‘DUSK’ celebrates the power of music and dance!
Closing out the most successful performance season in Ballet BC’s nearly 40 years, DUSK presents two brand new works choreographed and rehearsed in Vancouver, as well as a triumphant return from a prolific German choreographer — each work offering a celebration of the partnership between music and dance.
Renowned choreographic duo and real-life partners Bobbi Jene Smith and Or Schraiber will premiere their work Obsidian — their first creation for the company. Created for six dancers and set to the piano music of George Gurdjieff and Thomas de Hartmann, this highly anticipated work features piano music performed live on stage. The works of the duo have been called “wild and rebellious” (Le Figaro) and “darkly seductive” (Le Monde) — a world premiere not to be missed.
Joining the program is the return of Marco Goecke’s haunting Woke Up Blind. Set to songs by the late singer-songwriter Jeff Buckley, the piece offers audiences a unique look at Goecke’s truly distinct movement language, with seven dancers embodying highly complex gestures and isolations. A mesmerizing work from a legendary voice in dance. “It’s a fascinating study in music melding with movement; no heavy messages, just dance that feels blisteringly new.” – Stir Magazine on Woke Up Blind
